The palm tree forest at Vai is one of the most popular attractions in Crete and one of the most beautiful places in all of the Mediterranean. It has been proclaimed an ‘Aesthetic Forest’ with 4,500 Theophrastus’ palm trees, and a protected area (Natura 2000). It is 45’ away from Kato Zakros. Very close to Vai, at Ermoupoli, there is another beach and the remains of ancient Itanos, with archaeological site, sandy beaches and marvellous seabed.
